CHILDREN (Ages 6 - 8)
Saturday Art Class During the school year, artists and art educators provide introductory classes exploring a variety of media. Projects such as puppet making, painting and drawing that promote expression and the development of creativity in a positive environment. Registration is required. $10 fee per class or $30 a month. A nutritious and delicious snack is provided. Classes are held 3 Saturdays a month. Donations are welcome.

Summer Art Splash
Summer Arts Splash: Laredo Public Libraries will be hosting the Summer Arts Splash during the month of July. Hands-on activities in the Visual Arts for children ages 6 - 12 are going to be offered at 2 different locations. The activities will be led by artists/art educators, children will explore a variety of media in week-long sessions (Tuesday - Friday). Summer Art Splash is provided in conjunction with the Laredo Public Library. Registration is required. You may begin to register at the library of your choice June 2, 2008. No fee will be required.

Children will be divided into three age groups. Ages: 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 Registration begins June 2, 2008. Food services will be provided by the LISD Child Nutrition Program.

Theater Art Splash A one-week camp will be led by local theatre instructors and visiting guest artist. Children will explore theater principles and games, while creating their own skits for a final performance. This workshop will allow students to create and act out original theatrical skits. Registration for children ages 6- 12 will begin on June 2nd at the Laredo Public Library. No fee will be required.

YOUTH/TEENAGERS Exploradores de Arte: Middle school students of Rio Bravo and El Cenizo explore a variety of media in this after school program offered at Salvador Garcia Middle School. Participants also enjoy monthly visits to the Laredo Center for the Arts. Provided in collaboration with the United Independent School District and the TAMIU Colonias Program, funding is provided in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Students will improve their technical drawing and painting skills by rendering "what they see," as well as being expressive and abstract in their approach. Students will explore the versatility of various materials. This program was designed to stimulate imagination, encourage creativity, and develop a better awareness of the visual arts. Actvities are TEKS aligned. Supplies are included, however, students are asked to buy a sketchbook. Students will be creating art, so they should wear old clothes or bring an apron or smock.
